Math and Computer Building

The CEMC welcomes students and teachers to the University of Waterloo campus throughout the year for a variety of stimulating and enjoyable enrichment activities. CEMC faculty members also enjoy visiting schools to share their passion for mathematics and computer science.

For the Love of Math and Computer Science
A one-day conference for teachers of grades 4 to 12 on October 14, 2017.
The goal is to inspire us as educators and strengthen our love for mathematics and computer science.


Opportunities For Students

Math Circles is a weekly enrichment activity for students in grades 6 to 12 organized by the Faculty of Mathematics at the University of Waterloo.

CEMC Seminar in CS for Young WomenThe CEMC Workshop in Computer Science for Young Women is a unique opportunity for selected female students from across Canada. The workshop's purpose is to spark interest in computer science among young high school girls. Workshops are held every May and June.

Programming Challenge for Girls (PC4G) is a workshop designed to introduce programming to Grade 10 girls who have never programmed before. By the end of the day, students will have learned the basics of object-oriented programming through a hands-on tutorial and challenge.

Think About Math Logo!Think About Math! (TAM) is designed to ignite enthusiasm in high school girls for mathematics. It is a workshop demonstrating that math is fun, relevant, and leads to exciting careers. TAM is held every Spring.

 

Opportunities for Teachers

The Summer Conference for Computer Studies Educators is a wonderful chance for computer science and computer technology teachers to network with other teachers, learn new skills and brainstorm classroom activity ideas. It is held every August.

Teacher WorkshopThe Math Teachers' Conference is a popular event with a focus on curriculum, extensions and enrichment. The curriculum sessions will focus on problem solving. It is held every August. Teachers who register should have some previous teaching experience in an elementary or high school.

In August 2017, the CEMC plans to offer an additional conference in Winnipeg.
