Coronavirus Information

We are making plans to offer all of our 2020-2021 contests and events as per usual though we will continue to monitor and adjust to the recommendations from the University and health authorities and communicate any changes as soon as possible.

Please see below information that pertains to remaining 2019-2020 academic year activities.

Teacher Conferences

In August, the CEMC will be hosting an online conference to provide an opportunity for teachers to connect and learn from each other. The CEMC normally hosts three conferences for teachers in August: A Math teachers' conference in Winnipeg, a Computer Studies teachers' conference and a Math teachers' conference in Waterloo. This will be a combination of all three normally scheduled conferences.

Book Orders

Ordering of our books and posters is currently suspended. Our campus is closed and we are not able to ship any items at this time.

Online Resources for Learning at Home

Please be reminded of the following CEMC resources, all of which are free:

  1. Our comprehensive courseware covers most mathematics topics covered curricula from Grade 7 to Grade 12. Each course includes online teaching, interactive components, and lots of opportunity for practice. This is a great way for students who are not in class to continue learning. The Grade 9/10/11 Courseware includes curriculum maps that explicitly show how the lessons connect to the various Canadian provincial curricula.
  2. A new CEMC at Home resource at each of four levels from Grade 4 to 12 was developed to support teachers, students and parents.
  3. Problem of the Week and Problem of the Month offer students the chance to do some problem solving and keep sharp.
  4. CS Circles is an excellent resource for students to learn the basics of programming.
  5. In addition to these resources, the CEMC offers a wide range of other online resources supporting Grade 4 to Grade 12.

  1. We were able to write and return our Pascal/Cayley/Fermat (PCF) contest(s) but have not been given our results. What happens now?

If you did return your completed contest(s) but have not received confirmation of your results, it likely means that we received your package after our campus closure of March 16th. While we will continue to process and provide results for all contests received once our offices open, we do not know when this will be so we would like to provide you with a full refund and apologize for this unexpected inconvenience. Please see refund details further below in the FAQ section.

  3. I am supposed to get a medal and/or certificate for Pascal/Cayley/Fermat (PCF). Will I still get them?

Yes, as soon as our campus is open and we are able to ship medals and certificates, we will mail these out to the Head of Mathematics at the school where the contest was written. Unfortunately, we were unable to ship out medals and certificates before the University of Waterloo temporarily closed in March, due to COVID-19.

At this time, we currently do not know when we will be returning to campus so we do not have a confirmed shipping date. However, if you need certificates earlier, the organizing teacher is able to login and access our online certificate generator to print full certificates.
