About the CEMC

The mission of the CEMC is to increase interest, enjoyment, confidence, and ability in mathematics and computer science among learners and educators in Canada and internationally. It has become Canada's largest and most recognized outreach organization for promoting and creating activities and materials in mathematics and computer science. The CEMC is housed within the Faculty of Mathematics at the University of Waterloo.

Mathematics and Computing Contests

The CEMC develops and administers many internationally recognized contests to help to inspire the next generation of students to develop an interest in and love for mathematics and computer science. Every year, more than 250,000 students participate around the world.

Courseware and Web Resources

Many CEMC online resources are available at no cost to students, teachers and parents. This includes the very popular Problem of the Week and examples of Real-World Math.

CEMC mathematics courseware covers concepts from Grade 7 to Grade 12. The feature-rich materials are available on a free, open and online teaching and learning platform. Similar materials are offered to help people learn how to program. In particular, CS Circles has been translated into several languages.

Workshops, Conferences and Outreach Visits

The CEMC welcomes students and teachers to the University of Waterloo campus throughout the year for a variety of stimulating and enjoyable enrichment activities. CEMC faculty members also enjoy visiting schools to share their passion for mathematics and computer science.

Master of Mathematics for Teachers

The Faculty of Mathematics offers a Master of Mathematics for Teachers (MMT) through the CEMC. It is designed to provide current teachers of mathematics with the opportunity to expand their knowledge base.
